Life is the laboratory I work in every day. The most interesting aspect of writing each day's perspective is that it is always based upon real life experience and observation.
I was sitting watching Treehouse TV with my son. It was one of those rare times when the show was not a cartoon. It was about a group of young children riding in a horse-drawn carriage along a winding country road up a mountain to a castle.
I was drawn in. The scene was shot in the wintertime. Big fat flakes of snow lazily floated down from the sky blanketing the trees and road and carriage and rooftops along the way. It looked clean and crisp and cold and more than just a bit nostalgic.
Sitting on the couch, the patio doors leading to the back deck were to my left. A noise caught my attention and I turned to look out the door. For just a minute I was sure the pine trees that line the back of our yard were coated in heavy white snow that continued to fall. I stared for just a minute before I realized there was no snow. The trees were bright green. Flowers burst from the planters and the sun that brought us temperatures in the low ’70s today was ablaze as it sunk below the neighbor’s rooftop.
What a fascinating lesson of life. The mind sure can play tricks on you. This extends far beyond falling snow on a children’s show.
Know this: The images we take in again and again can frame what our subconscious mind believes. If what we focus on is negative, over time the mind’s eye will begin to see negative everywhere.
Focus, then, on the pictures of what is possible in life—not only on what is in front of us, but on what is in our thoughts, images conjured up in the mind’s eye. When the world is telling you, "Your eyes are getting heavy," make sure to look away lest you get hypnotized.
Have an excellent day.
