A: Before using a supplement, identify the cause of extreme fatigue. Once you've ruled out all the lifestyle factors (e.g., a busy schedule) or a specific health condition (like hypoglycemia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, or other), the first supplement I would consider is a B complex. The various B vitamins, particularly B6 and B12 are highly energizing, improve mental clarity, and encourage a good night's sleep if taken correctly. Begin with a B-50 or high-potency B complex taken early in the day (with breakfast or lunch). A ‘green' supplement, like spirulina, chlorella, or Greens+ provides energizing nutrients that are certain to provide a powerful pick-me-up. Also consider food allergy as a cause of fatigue. Certain foods (like sugar or gluten) that may appear relatively harmless can cause lethargy in some people. Find an allergist in your area who conducts electrodermal testing to explore (and hopefully rule out) this possibility.
