Hydros Water Bottles
Slowly, plastic water bottles will be a thing of the past. Economically and environmentally, it just makes sense to sport a reusable water bottle. Not to mention a lot of reusable water bottles are better for your health. At Naturally Savvy, we are big proponents for toting around your own water bottles, so we were excited to try out the new Hydros Bottles, water bottles with built in water filters.
How it Started
The creation of the Hydros Bottle was formed as an idea for a Social Innovation Competition at the University of Pennsylvania. Cramming for an idea, friends Jay and Askash decided that a filtering water bottle was the best plan of action for the competition. To sweeten their idea they incorporated a donation with each purchase that would go to global water projects. Not only would they be helping to get clean filtered water to people who need it, but they would also be purging the world of plastic water bottles. A win, win situation. They finished as semi-finalists, but Jay and Askash knew they had a special creation. They set out to develop their prototype, found investors and got Hydros Bottles into Whole Foods Market.
How it Works
The filter water system is what makes Hydro Bottles so unique. Ordinary tap water contains fluoride, chlorine and other chemicals. Some of the chemicals found in tap water are there to clean it, but they can also wreak havoc in our bodies. The research can get scary. When you drink tap water, without using some kind of a filtration system, it forces your kidneys and liver to filter out all the chlorine and chemicals -- which can burden them. If you’re drinking from the tap, always try to filter your water through a water filter system or a filtering water bottle, like a Hydros water bottle. Your body will thank you.
Bisphenol-A (BPA) and phthalate free, Hydros Bottle's filter system significantly reduces chlorine, chloramines and other particles from your drinking water. Run water through the water filter while it’s attached to the bottle and watch as the clean, filtered water flows through. Screw the top cap back on and you’ve just made yourself some seriously clean, drinkable water. To drink the water you have to unscrew the whole cap, there is no ‘sippy’ top option. Hydros might not be handy for long runs, but it will work for many other occasions.
What we Thought
Hydros Bottle is a fantastic idea, especially when you are out and about and want a refill on your water, but only have access to tap water. We’ve used our Hydros Bottle several times and find it easy to use, which is a must with small kids begging for water because they are thirsty and need it 'right now!". The filtered water tastes clean and fresh, like it’s supposed to. The bottle itself is quite big and you have a choice of colors when you order. And each Hydros Bottle purchased is a chance to help nearly 1 billion people who don’t have access to clean drinking water. Hydros is reinvesting profits into developing new filter technologies to bring Hydros Bottle to people in need globally. Until they develop the technology, $1 from each Hydros Bottle will go towards a sustainable water infrastructure.
Hydros Bottles are a great way to save money, help the planet and help those in need -- all while sipping away on clean, filtered water. So if you’re still buying hundreds of plastic water bottles a year, kick with habit with a reusable bottle. For everything we talked about above, we believe Hydros deserves the Naturally Savvy Seal of Approval.
