If you’re breastfeeding your baby, or have ever breast fed, then you know how awkward it can be to feed your child in regular clothes. Even nursing-specific duds can be disappointing -- they’re not usually very stylish and hardly workable. Breastfeeding women of the world need clothes that appeal to our most inner fashionista but also our need for functionality.
Mia Seipel, founder of the company Boob Design, saw the desperate need for better maternity and nursing tops first hand. The concept behind Boob was born on a cold day in 1999 as Mia watched her sister nurse her newborn son in a park in Stockholm. With her waist bare to the icy northern wind, both baby and mama were having a difficult time getting comfortable enough to feed. Mia knew there must be a better way to nurse both for mother and for the child. It was then the idea for Boob was brainstormed.
Working within a niche market, Mia knew that her product had to be distinguishable. With an eye to the environment, one of Boob's policies is to create great pieces that are locally made and environmentally conscious.
Boob’s cotton is grown without the use of pesticides and fertilizers. The dying is done in an environmentally sensitive process. The end result is an article of clothing that is 100% free of toxins. This is a great option for you and for your baby, whose skin is super sensitive. And with the entire manufacturing method done in Europe, Boob Design is supporting their local economy (Boob Design is based in Sweden).
Flipping through the Boob catalogue, I was amazed at how much choice there was. For nursing and maternity wear there are swim suits, jeans, jeggings, hoodies, dresses, plain t-shirts, pyjamas, dress shirts and much more. They even offer baby clothes. We are positive that there will be something that will catch your eye.
Having recently given birth myself (in January 2011), I had the opportumity to try a few different nursing options from Boob Design. They were:
Nursing Camisole: This darling top is perfect for the summer time. With a classic design the top will never go out of style so it is great for passing it along to other expectant or nursing mothers once I am done. What I loved the most about it was that I could wear it under my normal hoodies and sweaters and still have the protection that I wanted. Fantastic!
Nursing Blouse Butterfly: A fancier top that is perfect for dressier occasions or when you want to feel a bit stylish. This shirt is also roomier, making it a great fit for both expectant and nursing mothers. With two flattering patterns you’ll be sure to be turning heads.
Pyjama Pants Lauren: These organic pj pants are just plain comfy -- regardless of pregnancy. The drawstring allows for more sound sleep whatever stage of pregnancy you’re at. I will wear these well beyond my breast feeding time.
B Warmer Nursing Hoodie: This is by far my favorite piece. Comfy, cozy, warm, stylish, I can’t say enough positive things about it. This hoodie comes in 12 bold colors so you’re sure to find one that’ll suit your style. The hoodie offers complete protection from unwanted on-lookers. Plus it goes with yoga pants, jeans and sweats. It’s the ultimate in nursing wear.
Since I travel a lot for work, and I am relatively shy when it comes to nursing in public, the B Warmer Nursing Hoodie saved the day for me on a recent trip out West. On the airplane I could feed my baby comfortably without exposing myself to the passengers on the flight (especially the man sitting next to me). This top is a must have for shy nursing mothers.
I can honestly say Boob Design's clothing line is beautiful, comfortable and functional. Each top has easy access for simple, hassle-free feedings. The design is made so that there is the utmost privacy for you and for baby. Nursing aside, these breast feeding tops are just plain cute. After nine months of maternity clothing it’s nice to pull on something that is playful, a little form fitting and fun. What more could a chic mom want?
Breastfeeding should be a positive bonding time for you and for your baby, so ditch the breast feeding clothes that don’t measure up. Boob Design has made for a truly wonderful nursing experience. Hands down, Boob Design has earned the Naturally Savvy Seal of Approval.
