It's the first of a series of articles on testicular health.

The article is called Testicular Anatomy & Health, and I believe it is an important first step in understanding the issues surrounding men's health.

While I was writing the article, it brought back memories of when I was a student in nursing school. My first patient was a man in his thirties, and I cannot remember anything about him except for the fact that I was told to give him a bed bath. Here I was, a married woman with a child, and I was terrified of giving this man a bed bath. Well, here I am, two decades later and very comfortable in talking to men about men's health (and giving bed baths when needed).

Not Just About Sex

Across the country and within our communities, we are seeing changes to how we approach issues related to the male's urogenital system-once thought to be solely a sexual issue. We now know that testicular changes can influence more than just a man's libido.

Major changes in the following can be traced back to physiological changes within the testicles:

  • Physical appearance

  • Cognitive ability

  • Personality

  • Mood

In the meantime, I found an interesting website on men's reproductive health. The site is designed to help patients become proactive in their health care with a variety of resources available to reach this goal.
