Naturally Savvy Guide, Andrea Donsky: How do you maintain balance in your life?
Vic Harris: Of course maintaining balance is very important out here. It’s way to easy to get out of keel and sink. So I try and get to the gym everyday, which involves regular strength training exercises along with a few miles of cardio. Also, I think it’s very important to download after shooting a movie or any project that goes on longer than a few days. I usually am in a sort of zone and it’s gets very tiring, so I try and dump everything the minute we wrap. In between acting jobs I try not to fall into the normal traps that one can fall in by putting my life on-hold. Since I have a degree in Interior Design, I do small remodeling projects for people and sometimes fill in for carpenters on HGTV.
Andrea Donsky: You served your country for 8 years prior to getting into show business. How has that influenced the person you are today?
Vic Harris: Being in the Army for 8 years has added focus, patience and flexibility to my life. I think it allows me to collaborate with a group of people because you’re constantly working in large groups to accomplish a mission, not unlike a TV or movie set. It also prepared for more constant change. There’s always one thing that’s certain in the military, nothing ever works out the way it was supposed. You always have to adapt and overcome challenges.
Andrea Donsky: How do you live a healthy lifestyle (is it thought what you eat, exercise, spirituality, etc..)?
Vic Harris: I exercise everyday, or at least try to and I have always tried to put the best foods in my body. I pretty much stopped eating fast food when I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan and haven’t really missed it. I’m old fashioned when it comes to the type of foods and actually a little boring I’d say. Eggs and oats for breakfast with some fruit. Tuna salad, turkey sandwich or pasta for lunch and some sort of chicken dish with vegetables and a small serving of carbs for dinner. Of course this isn’t always what I eat but it gives you an example.
Andrea Donsky: Tell me a little bit about how you decided to get into show business.
Vic Harris: Well, members of the digital media dept of The International Academy of Design convinced me to audition for the lead in Eden's Legacy, which was a student film and it just clicked right away. My girlfriend at the time was moving out to L.A. and she talked me into it and gave me the shove to get my butt out here. It was a huge step and it all moved so fast. To be honest it was sort of scary. Then within months I was in LA auditioning and working right away and I’ve never looked back!
