Q: I have terrible nausea and it is turning me off of most food. What can I do to make sure I get nutrients into my body?
A: Try and stick to bland tasting and smelling foods (often it is the odor that can turn a pregnant woman's stomach) and limit harder to digest foods such as red meat, cheese, and processed foods that contain trans fats.
Although it is tempting to want to eat fast foods because you may have no desire or energy to cook, it is exactly these foods which will make you feel worse because of their unhealthy ingredients.
Since drinking your nutrients tends to be easier, one good option is smoothies made with plain yogurt, berries and a good quality whey protein powder, while another idea is juicing your favorite vegetables and fruit such as carrots, celery, and apples. These drinks will at least ensure you get a concentrated supply of vitamins and minerals into your body. Whole grain and bean salads are another fairly safe and inoffensive choice. Try a brown rice or quinoa and chick pea salad.
