In this post, BakeryManis is sharing recipes of a different sort- for homemade health products including face scrubby and anti-fungal foot spray ! I have posted the delicious face + body scrub before, but I wanted to post it again as it is featured in the upcoming issue of Hawaii Women’s Journal . The Feminist Housewife (that’s me) column is about ‘green consumerism-’ how purchasing green, eco-groovy, sustainable products is a often a marketing ploy to help us reconcile the need to shop with a sense of responsibility to the planet. Green consumerism is a great idea- I love bamboo shirts, organic conditioner and such, but most of us would do well to curb our excess purchases. The following are two easy ways to do lessen our dependence on corporate brands and their excessive packaging, questionable ingredients, and high cost. Doesn’t that make you feel righteous?!

warming face + body scrub
I was inspired to make this to break my st. ives apricot scrub habit. I wanted to switch because the non-recyclable containers bugged me, and it kept getting more expensive. So I went to a healthfood store to browse the million offerings for face scrubs. These eco-friendly scrubs are all very small containers, they are all very expensive, and most importantly, the main ingredients in most brands was ingredients I already had in my kitchen . So I went home to create, and I have never bought apricot scrub again- and more importantly, my skin looks great! I hope you will try it!

3 tbsp fine turbinado sugar (finer than sugar in the raw)
3 tbsp brown rice flour
