
Where is chocolate produced? The six largest cocoa-producing countries are the Ivory Coast, Ghana, Indonesia, Nigeria, Brazil, and Cameroon. In many of these countries cocoa is a major export and has a profound effect on the local economy and culture. For example, in Ghana, cocoa accounts for 40% of the country’s total export revenues, with more than two million farmers employed in cocoa production. The Ivory Coast is the top producer worldwide, providing 43% of all cocoa.1
