Some Eco Products for the Kitchen

The kitchen is perhaps the busiest room in the home. With all that cooking, laundry, tea-making and cleaning, the kitchen is also one of the highest energy consumption rooms in the home too, with a large proportion of our electricity bills stemming from the activities that go on in the kitchen.

And with the threat of huge rises in energy bills this year , cutting down on our energy use in the kitchen can go along way in cutting our energy bills and reducing the impact we have on the environment.

Laundry

Whilst a chore few of us take pleasure in doing, washing and drying our clothes and linen is also very damaging to the environment. Not only are washing machines and tumble dryers large consumers of energy, and water, the use of chemical detergents and softeners also have an effect on the environment, seeping into our water supplies and eventually into ground water.

Of course, nobody wants to walk around in dirty clothes but we can take measure to alleviate the impact of our weekly wash. Firstly, always make sure the washing machine is as full as possible and never turn the machine on until you have a full load. Keep the temperature of the machine on a low setting, no more than forty degrees.

Detergents can be replaced with eco balls , that use ionisation and magnetism to remove stains, but if you do are use modern detergents, choose one that allows you to was at thirty degrees, which will save energy.

Tumble dryers are extremely power-hungry, and unnecessary. In the summer, clothes lines will not only dry clothes almost as quickly, but they will provide an airing that will do away with the need for fabric softeners and ensure your clothes smell fresh.
