Waiting for baby can be a tiring and anxious process. Photo: Scott Woods-Fehr via Flickr.Dear Child,

You have overstayed your welcome in my womb. I realize that you might have my sense of direction and you’re a little confused right now, but the only way out is down.

You need not worry about a life raft or emergency track lighting.

You will not end up in the ocean, I promise. I got your back, munchkin.

Our baby’s middle name will be Sereine.

We picked it before we knew how patient we were going to have to be when waiting for her. My friend Justin says her coming so far after her due date is a sign that she, too, will be patient. That’s such a nice thought.

Though I’m not feeling incredibly patient today.  I didn’t think we would meet the baby’s due date, and here we are, 5 days after!

As Michel pointed out last night, the Estimated Due Date is most difficult for humans because we expect it to be so precise. He told me the Narwhal is pregnant for 10 – 16 months and giraffes are preggo for 400 – 460 days.

The Narwhal cannot possibly hold its breath waiting for its babies to come, and the giraffe, well, the giraffe has it much worse than human females.

I was “over” being pregnant last week, but mostly just because I’m ready to get on with the new phase of my life: motherhood. I still feel pretty good. Though my hands are so swollen and I can’t get my ring off and my feet are covered in a bit of a rash, and sleeping is hard, (Michel just informed me I’ve been snoring for the last 7 months) despite all these things, the real reason I would like to have the baby is so that I can have the baby.

Without being too obsessive, this little girl’s parents have done everything in the book to try to help labour start. And it has, and then stopped. And then started, and then stopped.

Last night, we went on a long walk in an almost blizzard. We headed toward a health food store to buy some Red Raspberry Leaf tea. We had already spent Sunday having the sex and cleaning the house.

I have eaten copious amounts of pineapple and the spiciest food. I have massaged all the acupressure points that are supposed to get labour going. I have alternated between cat and cow, done deep squats and even tried belly dancing.

I don’t have the energy to seek out homeopathy or acupuncture.

Tomorrow we’ll have a Non Stress Test to make sure it’s still safe for me to continue carrying the baby. I’ll have my dilation checked and likely another membrane sweep. I will carry you as long as it’s safe, little one.

It was predicted she’d be born 6lbs 3oz. At this rate she’s going to be an 11 lber.

SERENITY NOW!
