Finding Balance by Randy Taylor
The purpose of this article is for you to read the next line slowly. Carefully take the time to think about your response.
“What is possible in my life?“ This fundamental question is one many of us never really consider. Taking the time to mull over your answer has the potential of opening doors you may never even knew existed. What if you made the commitment right now - right at this very moment - to look inside yourself and uncover all that is possible? Not just a corner or fragmented part of your life, but all of it? After working in the field of personal development for the past 20 years there’s one thing I have come to know for sure. Every person on this earth has the capacity to look inside and discover more than he or she ever thought was possible. “What If” you became one of those people? I entered this field of personal development more from necessity than intention. I came from the other side of the tracks. As a child I lived with poverty, parental alcoholism, violence and life on the streets. Even with all that occurred in my childhood, I now understand I am one of the fortunate ones. I was able to use my experiences to develop the resolve to actively follow my dreams. From this determination, I was able to reach my goal of making it to the very top in Canadian broadcasting system as the afternoon talk show host at the largest station in the country and then to host my own national television show. And for the past five years, I have been investing in my new passion – helping others with personal and professional growth. I am taking what I learned from a lifetime of experiences and helping others uncover the great potential that’s inside all of them. Like many people who face challenges, I am forever grateful for the lessons my troubled past taught me. They forced me to push through the doubts embedded in my mind based on where I came from and to see what was possible. I now know that this type of transformation was not just possible for me, but for others as well. I learned a very long time ago where you have been and where you are today are no indication of what is possible tomorrow. You owe it to yourself to try. Commit to living “regret free” – try your best not to allow your life to pass you by without summoning up the strength inside you. Trying can be an exhilarating and freeing journey. The experience of self-discovery is like entering into a cave deep beneath the ocean’s surface in total darkness and then turning a light on. There is a whole new world of possibilities few of us get to see. The first key to unlocking the door is to know it is possible for each of us to achieve. It is possible for you if you have the courage to simply begin with the question, “What if.” What stops many of us from even asking the question is the little voice inside our head that has been created through a lifetime of experiences. Your current belief system and philosophy has been molded and formed primarily by outside influences. Like the leaves on a fall day we get swept up in the wind, buying into the pre-conceived notions and beliefs of what is and is not possible. The result for most is we get to live a good life. However, just not the one we would have chosen for ourselves. There are those of us who may attempt to take that first step and try, however, we may quickly succumb to the voice of society. The world today paints a picture of instant success and immediate gratification. So many people today are searching and paying for the quick fix, magic pill solution that will propel them towards a life of promise, success and wealth. The truth is that in order for it to change, we must change and change does not come in the blink of an eye. It comes from consistent, sustained effort moving towards our goals with the expectation of growing an inch a day rather than ten feet at once. Becoming the lead director in your own life is a sure thing if and only if you commit to daily forward momentum. I have been asked many times “Am I not taking a risk to go off in a new direction?” The answer to that is simple. Living an unfulfilled life and not moving in the direction of your heart is the real risk. The process of making this happen involves understanding how outside influences may have contributed to creating your current belief system. They key is connecting to your own voice and overcoming it by discovering your passion, investing in new successful habits and focusing on what you can accomplish well. One critical element in all of this is learning to let go of yesterday and allowing tomorrow to just be tomorrow until it becomes today. The results of this self-investment will help you achieve the life you thought was reserved only for the chosen ones. I understand what I’m asking you to embark on may be difficult to embrace at first. Improving your business skills, your health or time management abilities is not a simple process. However, I’m asking you to at least try. Doing the necessary work to connect to your authentic self, with your own voice by using your own thoughts for your own reasons to achieve more than you ever thought possible. Take a moment right now and ask this question, “What If” I don’t? |
