Q: What’s the difference between whole grain and multigrain? -Lisa

A: Whole grain and multigrain are not necessarily the same thing. The term ‘whole grain’ denotes that all three parts of the grain (the bran, germ, and endosperm) are present. While ‘multigrain’ should mean that multiple whole grains are included, it can sometimes mean more than one refined grain product is used. Since refined grains are no better than white bread, choose a whole grain product instead.
