Natural Cents: Natural & Organic Money Saving Tips: Naturally Savvy

Organic and natural products receive a bad rap because certain items are more costly than their conventional counterparts. However, it is important to note that in some cases, prices for natural and organic products are the same or even lower than their non-natural/organic alternatives. In general, as demand grows for these type products, costs will continue to decrease and level off.

Skeptics feel these products aren’t worth the extra money, but buying natural and organic products don’t have to break the bank. Here’s how:

  1. Purchase in-season, organic produce from your local farmer’s market.
  2. Choose natural meat over organic. Look for naturally raised meats such as chicken, turkey and beef that are raised without antibiotics, animal-by-products and/or added growth-hormones, and are minimally processed with no artificial additives or preservatives.
  3. Make your own all-natural, chemical-free cleaning products. Lemon, vinegar and Baking soda are all effective ingredients for preparing your own non-toxic household cleaners.
  4. Shop around as prices vary from store to store.
  5. Grow your own organic fruit, vegetable and herb gardens.
  6. Take advantage of sales. Look for them in your local grocery stores’ weekly flyers.
  7. Buy in bulk. Many health food stores sell bulk foods in clean, sanitary dispensers. Nuts ands seeds, flour, whole grains as well as dried fruits are often available for purchase in this format.
  8. Ask your local health food or grocery store if they hand out coupon books for natural and organic products or use the E-coupons on our website. Fill out the form and we will email coupon right into your inbox!
