I am currently reading the popular bestseller Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert.

So far, this book has spoken to me in many ways. It talks about journeys and the various paths we take in life. Even though I have only read a few chapters, I am already inspired!

I have added “your life” to my title here because I wanted the message of this article to be clear. I am speaking to every person reading this article. This is your life!

If you have been walking through life complaining about work, money, relationships, a nagging spouse—stop now!

Everyone in life has their own set of challenges. It is your reaction to them that matters. No one is immune to pain or disappointments.

As a Naturopathic Doctor, I am interested in addressing the whole person. This includes understanding one’s physical ailments and the accompanying mental, emotional symptoms.

Clients often come to see me to address a particular pain in their body. Commonly, aches begin around a stressful event, the loss of a loved one, a job loss, a car accident, etc. Coincidence? I think not.

Our emotions, our thoughts, our feelings have an impact on our physical being. As soon as we acknowledge this mind-body connection, great things can happen. There is a deeper awareness of self that is necessary for healing to occur.

Then we ask, what if I began feeding myself with positive words of encouragement? Would I feel better? I believe so.

Begin to take inventory of your life:

  • Who and what are the major stressors in your life?

  • Are there negative people around you?

These are the energy-drainers that make you feel empty after being in their presence. Limit your activities with these people. If they are a spouse or co-worker, talk to them and discuss their negative language. Still no change or success? Look for other ways, other answers. You owe this to yourself.

Try to surround yourself with people who make you feel inspired after leaving their presence. These are the energy-givers who can help you achieve the goals you set for yourself.

If you do not have a list of goals, write them down today!! We must plan to succeed.

If accomplishing these tasks seem unimaginable, then seek a counselor, a Naturopathic Doctor, a mentor to help you. You may need to see several people before you find the right person. Spend the time searching for the person who clicks with you and may be the most influential person in your life.

Search for positive quotes and read them aloud. Read inspiring biographies of your role-model.

Remember, this is your life and all of this does make a difference. Make the necessary changes so you can begin to consciously eat, pray, and love your life!!
