Be Inspired To Live Well

inspired to live well changes resolutions odessa gill naturally savvyAt the dawn of a new year, we are faced again with making some resolutions. As a Naturopathic Doctor, I am always approached by clients and friends to reveal my wish list for the year.

Inspired resolutions

To be inspired and lead a passion-filled life should top our list of resolutions. We make our must-do lists every year and often forget to add challenges that nourish the soul. Inspired resolutions are changes that lead to positive benefits for the body, soul, and mind.

Think about it

First, we must consider our thoughts. Our thoughts shape our actions and language.

The winter season is a time for introspection. From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, this is the time to build the yin qualities of being more receptive, compassionate, and meditative.

The day begins as soon as we open our eyes. Begin the day with a positive intention. Just pick one intention or goal for the day.

Similarly, at the end of the day, it is important to give thanks for the gifts given and lessons learned.

At-a-glance

Here is my short-list of 2009 resolutions:
  • Be inspired to live well.

  • Begin the day with one positive intention.

  • End the day with gratitude; give thanks for the day’s blessings.

  • Book regular dates with friends.

  • Be active for at least 30 minutes every day.

  • Spend less time using the computer.

  • Limit cell phone use to only necessary calls.

  • Make a list of how you can conserve more energy in your house.

  • Share this list with family and friends.

  • Listen to your body.

  • Avoid planning all hours of the day.

  • Allow for spontaneity in your life.

  • Go to bed before midnight!

  • Share your hidden talents with others.

  • Remember to breathe!!

  • Abandon worried thoughts. Remind yourself that they serve no purpose.

  • Go to the sauna once per week for consistent detoxification.

  • Remove plastic containers/items and replace with glassware.

  • Choose local produce.

  • Be conscious of all food choices.

  • Incorporate meal-planning and preparation into the work week.

  • Read the biography of your favorite hero.

  • Collect quotes that inspire you and post them around your house.

  • Find a secret place that brings you comfort and joy (for example, a museum or hidden coffee shop).

  • Visit your secret place at least once per week.

  • Limit the energy drainers in your life: caffeine, alcohol. and stress.

  • Go vegetarian at least once per week.

  • Perform regular juice cleanses on the weekends.

  • Remove all clutter from your live and work spaces.

  • Bring more color into your wardrobe.

  • Donate any items/clothes that have not been used in three months.

  • Schedule regular massages.

  • Write a letter and mail to a friend.

  • Incorporate some meditative exercise into your routine: Nia, qigong, yoga.

To live well is to be inspired. Today, do the things you have always said you wanted to do. It can be that simple.

Take the first step and turn ideas into action. Begin the new chapter of your life. Your life awaits!
