Q: My granddaughter suffers from canker sores in her mouth. It seems she gets them after being run down. How can we build up her immune system? She is 12 yrs old.

A: Cold sores can develop as a result of a variety of factors; the most common reason (as you indicated) is a compromised immune system - usually caused by low blood pH. The pH of your blood plays an enormous role in the preservation of health and is influenced by food and mood. Sugar, cooked grains, overcooked vegetables, and processed foods negatively influence pH, drawing it downward toward the acidic end. Overconsumption of these foods weaken immunity. Raw vegetables and fruit, almonds (raw), millet, sea salt, and green foods (like a "green drink supplement" as well as most green vegetables) positively influence pH. Your granddaughter may benefit from a diet that's 70% alkalizing foods vs. 30% acid forming until her immune system is strong.
