BPA Ban in Canada, America Follows Suit

The wheels are in motion.

The United States is taking a stand against bisphenol-A (BPA).

Senator Charles E. Schumer of New York recently introduced a bill to ban BPA in all children’s products and any containers that come in contact with food or drink. Maryland, California and eight other states are considering BPA regulations.

A recent U.S. study has also revealed that BPA has potential to interfere with healthy human development.

Even Wal-Mart is following suit as the retail titan plans to remove all products containing BPA from its store shelves.

That means the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has some explaining to do. Findings from the National Toxicology Program—a division of the United States Health and Human Services Department—produced results that contradict what the FDA originally defined as “safe” BPA exposure.

Schumer says, “The FDA needs to explain its initial finding and come clean about the study's methodology.”

Now that a considerable body of up-to-date research has come to light, it’s important to take extra precautions and be aware of the containers you are eating and drinking from.
