Making Herbal Cough Drops
- Wednesday, 29 September 2010
As a chemistry prof at Texas A&M University, I'm around kids a lot. About 10 days into the semester, all the bugs and viruses that the students have been exposed to all summer long come together to create the "perfect storm" of colds and flu.
Needless to say, I'm down with the flu. I take my herbs and recover in a few days, except for a persistent cough. I know that coughing does have its function in preserving our health, but that dry nagging cough is irritating to the throat and makes it difficult to lecture.
I have always wanted to create my own herbal cough drops and just found a great basic recipe on line, posted by April Horton.
My next few blogs will discuss the specific herbs I chose for my recipe and about my experiences making cough drops. I'm a little nervous since it is basically a candy recipe and I've never done that before.
