Flaxseed Oil

Flaxseed oil has become very popular recently. Even my husband is now taking it to keep his heart, arteries, and immune system in good health—it was prescribed by his physician!
Flaxseed oil is one of the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which are generally lacking in the North American diet. This essential fatty acid is not manufactured by the body and must be obtained from diet. (Besides flaxseed, walnuts and salmon are excellent sources.)
Flaxseed oil is also rich in lignans, active polysaccharides that act as an antioxidant, immune booster, and phytoestrogen to help maintain hormonal balance in both men and women.
It is recommended to take between 1 and 3 tablespoons daily. You can also add two to four tablespoons of the ground seeds to your daily meals for all these benefits.
Rosemary Gladstar, in her book Herbs for Longevity & Wellbeing, suggests grinding the seeds in a spice or coffee grinder to help prevent heart disease, improve immune health, and add a glow to your skin and hair.
