Pepper is one herb used to make the Kaisora Guggulu found in India. Photo: the Italian voice via Flickr. As part of the treatment there was a wonderful herbal and olive oil massage, which started with a prayer and ended with my receiving an incredible golden-orange marigold necklace. Unlike our marigolds, the ones in India are pleasantly fragrant; I wish I could have brought it home with me.

Before the massage, we talked about a health issue that I have, hypothyroidism (low thyroid function). My mom’s thyroid quit working in her 30s and she used armour or synthroid for the rest of her life. My thyroid is struggling, but I have few symptoms and still exclusively use herbs and making sure I have enough iodine. She suggested Kaisora Guggulu, which is actually composed of many herbs. Kaishore (or kaishore/kaishora/kaisora by other names) Guggulu turns out is one of the very famous Ayurvedic herbal products.

One website says: “It acts as aging skin health promoter, joint health,  natural blood cleanser and is useful as supportive dietary herbal supplement in many health conditions such as diabetes, skin diseases etc…It is composed of several herbs, mainly Ayurvedic triphala, Giloya (tinospora), guggulu, pepper, long pepper, ginger, Vidanga (false black pepper), danti and Trivrit. I'm not familiar with most of these, so I'll be doing some research of my own. Check back in with my next post to see what I learned.
