Q: I was recently diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (breast cancer). I'm aware that some fruits are better than others because of lower sugar content. Could you provide me with a best-fruits-to-eat list? -Fran
A: Fruit (especially fresh fruit) is rich in antioxidants, enzymes, and vitamins, so you can (and should) eat fruit regularly, as long as you don't eat more than three whole fruits a day. You're correct that some fruit is lower in sugar than others, and these are the varieties you should eat more often. The site http://www.mendosa.com/gi.htm will provide you with a list of low vs. high sugar fruit according to the Glycemic Load score of each type of fruit. In general, berries, apples, and pears have low GL scores, whereas watermelon, mango, grapes, papaya, bananas - in other words, tropical fruits, have higher scores.
