Nattokinase: Nutrient
- Friday, 27 March 2009
Made from soy, cheese-like natto, a traditional Japanese food, is produced by fermentation.
Natto is the only source of nattokinase, an enzyme that prevents the coagulation of blood and dissolves fibrin, a protein involved in the clotting of blood.
Nattokinase is available as a dietary supplement but is not advisable in any condition associated with bleeding. Combining nattokinase and an anticoagulant, such as aspirin, may lead to internal bleeding. Discuss using nattokinase as a blood thinner with your health care professional, especially if you are taking anti-coagulants, aspirin, coumadin or other medicines or herbs that thin the blood.
