Australian Victoria’s Secret supermodel Miranda Kerr has become well known for her svelte figure and sweet smile, her healthy lifestyle, and for her marriage to actor Orlando Bloom. Early in 2011, she gave birth to the couple’s first son, Flynn. Born in New South Wales, Kerr was listed #5 on a list of 99 most desirable women in 2011, making her the highest-ranking Australian.
In addition to her modelling career, she launched her own organic skin-care line, KORA (www.koraorganics.com). “KORA comes out of my passion for healthy living,” Kerr told Australian Who Weekly magazine in 2009. “It’s all Australian made, with the highest percentage of organic ingredients and a fusion of essential oils and healing remedies. The name comes from looking after your core self, and feeding your body from the inside and the outside.”
Kerr maintains that it is just as important to put organic ingredients on your skin, as it is to eat foods that are the purest and most natural. Skin - the largest organ of the body – absorbs whatever you put on it, so it made sense for Kerr to treat it just as mindfully as she does her internal body. She started KORA Organics because she was not able to find a certified brand of organic skin care she was comfortable with. She particularly wanted to make sure that the products used had not been produced using pesticides and harsh chemicals that are as bad for the environment as they are for human skin.
For years, Kerr has been eating a mainly organic diet that’s geared to her blood type (A). This diet recommends lean meats and fish, coupled with lots of vegetables.
She credits this regime with helping her regain her sexy figure post-baby. She’s not rabid about her eating habits, however – Mirandaswears by eating "80 per cent healthy and 20 per cent indulgent, because I don’t believe in depriving myself." She is also a dedicated yogini, having a dedicated daily practice of asana and meditation, along with other physical fitness routines such as running (5K twice a week) and Pilates.
“I used to study nutrition,” Kerr says, “so I’m very passionate about health and putting the right ingredients into your body." In fact, she recently completed a certification as a health practitioner. She maintains that growing up on a farm surrounded by nature has helped her understand the profound ways in which we are all connected. “Our mind affects our body and our body affects the environment. Each is equally important to our well-being.”
Miranda Kerr’s future aspirations see her continuing in her current green, organic, mindful trajectory. Her goal, she maintains, “involves a hammock, a vegetable patch, and a solar-powered house.”
