Scott Peck, "The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers.

As I pondered this, I thought it is much the same with our dreams. Often the most disturbing dreams bring us the greatest insight. I know my scariest and my more challenging dreams have been among my greatest teachers. Let's assume that if a dream is so scary that we wake ourselves up to get out of it, or it sets our heart racing and our lungs pumping, then there is something important to look at.

There is so much to learn from these scary dreams. In the same way, Joseph Campbell wrote, "Where you stumble, there your treasure lies." Don't be afraid to look at these unpleasant dreams and seek help if you need it, but each and every one of these so-called "bad dreams" is there to deliver a message. The more you ignore them, the louder they become! So work with them, play with them and when you get the message, the scary dreams will dissipate, leaving behind their wisdom about yourself and your life. Soon you will agree that there is no such thing as a "bad dream."
