I love it when celebs use natural and organic products. At least they do something that's healthy to offset their crazy lifestyle. I've never seen a celebrity in person so I can't talk from experience, but I wanted to say my 2 cents worth.

That's what I heard. I like her...she's funny. If she really did what she said she did for her son then there is a lot of hope for many people whose children have autism. Good for her.

Congrats...how exciting. I hope you can share your experience with us the whole way through. I'd love to know what you're eating, how much and if you are gaining as much weight as the average woman does (35 to 45 lbs).

what are you doing differently now that you are pregnants? :)

I think I'd agree with the locavore diet more if it emphasized eating indigenous foods to the area you live in, instead of just food grown in your area.
Sure, locally grown red peppers are great, but if they come from a hot house, it's not really doing anything positive for the environment.

I have a pretty wicked case of eczema, speciically atopic detmatitis, and I was wondering what the naturopathic doctor might have to offer in the way of advice. Is it inherited? I was also wondering what (be it food, drink, environmental) might exacerbate the eczema.

Nutritionists study from some of the same books you've probably read:
Bernard Jensen, Rudolph Ballentine, Dr. Michael Murray, but every nutritionist's library will have at least one of the following:

Staying Healthy with Nutriiton, Elson Haas;
Prescription for Nutritional Healing by J. Balch; and/or
Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, Murray/Pizzorno.

These are 'bibles' that provide quick/easy reference and are regularly updated.

The rule is if you aren't sure whether or not to take a supplement at the same time as a med or other supplement, take them at least three hours apart from each other.

Medications can alter intestinal pH and therefore can change the effectiveness of your probiotics.

If you're taking antibiotics, you may as well wait until your prescription is finished before taking probiotics.

Hi Karma,

Enzymes 'retrain' your digestive system to work the way it's supposed to - meaning, to produce stomach acid and pancreatic enzymes. Take them just prior to each large meal for a few weeks. If after a while you feel they're only needed with bigger meals (like dinner), it won't be necessary to take them with breakfast and lunch.

If your enzyme supplements contain HCl (hydrochloric acid), you may notice a slight burning sensation when you take them. This is your stomach's way of indicating that it makes enough acid and more is unnecessary.

Plant enzymes, however, can be taken with and even between meals to reduce inflammation in other parts of your body. These you cannot overdose on.
